Pioneer School

Pioneer School takes students back in time to learn about pioneer life in the Western Reserve. They help the cabin lady with chores and make johnnycake while being challenged to compare their lives today with the lives of children their age in the 1800's.

The schoolmarm or schoolmaster presents an 1834 school lesson, and the students learn about the economics of candle making while they hand-dip candles in the barn. Pioneer School meets the State of Ohio's K-12 Academic Content Standards in Social Studies for strands including People in Societies, Social Studies skills and methods, and history. Walking in Their Mocassins

Walking in Their Moccasins is a Pre-Historic Native American studies program focused on Lake County and Erie's southern shore, with emphasis on the Late Pre-historic Whittlesey culture. Based on Ohio State Standards and developed with a grant from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, the program takes your students from their pre-visit study guides through a museum session with "Professor Whittlsey", studying local artifacts. Your students will observe, discuss and decide the differences in artifacts between four pre-historic periods: PALEO, ARCHAIC, WOODLAND AND LATE PRE-HISTORIC. Indoor activities include an archaeological dig, observation research and manipulation of artifacts. Outdoors, in our Living History Village, students engage in Native American life skills. Hands-on activities spark student's imagination. Walking in Their Moccasons meets the State of Ohio's K-12 Academic Content Standards in Social Studies for strands including People in Societies, Social Studies skills and methods, and history. Grades 4 through 6, 10:00am through 1pm. $5.00/ per student in Lake County, $5.50 out of county

Tally-Ho

In the late 1880’s “Tally Ho” wagons would meet visitors to Lake County at the train stations and drive them to their destination.  Because the following field trip also travels around Lake County, it has been named Tally Ho.  In response to teacher’s requests, Tally Ho for 2008-2009 has been divided into two focus trips, one is Governement, the other Entrepreneurship and Business

This daylong field trip takes students on an adventure through Lake County Administration Building to visit the Board of Elections, the Treasurer's Office, Recorder's office, and other local government officials to learn about local government. Here they see how government works for the good of the people. Finally, they visit the courtroom of a county judge to learn about the three branches of government and how they work together to run the city, county, state and federal government. By the end of this field trip, have not only met their government officials, but students also have a better understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in order to examine and evaluate ideals, and to participate in community life and the American democratic system. Workbooks are provided. Tally Ho meets the State of Ohio's K-12 Academic Content Standards in Social Studies for strands including People in Societies, Social Studies skills and methods, and government. Grades 4 through 6, $4.50/ per student. Lake County students only
