Overview

Lake County, Ohio is the smallest county in the State but offers some of the most nationally significant history in Ohio. Let expert Society narrators weave Lake County and the Western Reserve’s past into a full day or mini-tour as your group explores mansions, churches, gardens, graveyards and residential home sites. Heritage Motor Coach Tours

These tours average $30-$40 including lunch. They are also available in a shorter 2-hour “mini-tour” for $15-$20 with a lunch option. Prices do not include transportation, but coaches can be arranged. Minimum group size is 20 with one comp for driver and tour escort.

Scandals and Mansions Tour

Visit Mooreland Mansion, home of Edward Moore the Interurban railroad millionaire, then on to St. Hubert’s Chapel, the only remaining building of the mountain top resort era. Drive by HILO Farms, former home of Leonard Hanna, then a stop for lunch. Next stop Pine Ridge Country Club, home of the infamous Laura and Jimmy Corrigan, then end your day at Coulby Mansion (on the National Register of Historic Places, built in 1913, former home of Harry Coulby, Great Lakes shipping magnate, now Wickliffe City Hall. It features 16 rooms and a priceless Tiffany skylight.)

Two Wings and a Window Tour

This tour includes ten homes built by Jonathan Goldsmith, master builder of the Western Reserve. The tour will demonstrate why Goldsmith remains one of America’s most famous master builders working in the Western Reserve style. Tour the famous “Matthew’s House” one of Goldsmith’s most famous residences.

Wind, Water & Wildflowers

Tour Holden Arboretum. Depending upon the time of year, in Spring, the Wildflower garden and spring flowers are amazing; summer and autumn have their colorful spots, and even Winter has its maple syrup making. We’ll stop for lunch in Fairport Harbor near the water, walk over to the lighthouse and museum and then finish up out in Madison at Bluestone Perennials (the largest exporter of perennials in the states.)

How Does Your Garden Grow

Travel the gardens and nurseries and see why Lake County was identified as the nursery capital of the world. Lake County in Ohio is blessed with over six different soil types, lake effect weather and a long history of nursery agriculture. Visit the heart of this remarkable area and view its prime nurseries and delightful gardens.

Western Reserve Heritage Tour

Discover the past while traveling from an 1830’s general store to hand dipping candles and learning sea shanties at the base of a lighthouse. This tour is a very hands-on experience.

Mystery Tour

Ride on a boat in the Mentor Lagoons, walk their trails. Drive by the Headlands beach, past the salt mines, and on into Fairport Harbor or Grand River for lunch. While in Fairport, visit the lighthouse and museum. Then on to Madison’s Bluestone Perennials, the largest exporter of perennials in the states.. LCHS can create a mystery tour based on any theme and time constraints you may need.

Four-In-One Tours

LCHS has partnered with the Holden Arboretum, Historic Kirtland, and the James A. Garfield Presidential site to create Four-In-One Tours. Offerings from this group include stops at all four venues, includes lunch and are created around a central theme.
